The Harwood Museum of Art will be open on Mondays from after Memorial Day through Labor Day, 10-5pm. Admission $8, Free to Harwood Museum Alliance Members & UNM Staff & Students.
Shop & Learn Trunk Show featuring Susan Dilger
The Harwood Museum Shop features the unique metal and mixed media jewelry of Susan Dilger. Join the artist for a free reception and demonstration from noon-2pm. Dilger's work will be featured in the Shop through July. For more information Click Here.
Art Exploration Workshop - Sacred Spaces
This Art Exploration Workshop delves into the Art of the Sacred. Creating works of various mediums over the course of the week, children will explore how art can raise consciousness and how space can be made special. Guest artist instructor Sandra Wasko-Flood leads a labyrinth making day as part of this workshop.
Children 6 & up are invited to sign up for this multi-day workshop held in the Fern Hogue Mitchell Education Center from 10-noon. This program is $55 or free to Harwood Museum Alliance Members at Family Level Membership and Above. Class Size Limited. Click here to sign up or for more information.
The Labyrinth - a History, presented by Sandra Wasko-Flood
Join artist an Labyrinth maker and historian Sandra Wasko-Flood for a lecture on the History and Sacred role of Labyrnths. Wasko-Flood will be teaching a Labyrinth workshop for Kids at the Harwood as part of a 4-part Art Exploration Workshop. The completed piece, along with work by the Artist, will be on view in the Harwood's Sidney and Gladys Smith Childrens Gallery through August. Opening Celebration - Harwood Kids Labyrinth
Join us for a celebration of a kids-created Labyrinth - part of the Art Exploration Workshop: Art of the Sacred, on view in the Harwood's Sidney and Gladys Smith Children Art Gallery. This special Labyrinth workshop, led by artist Sandra Wasko-Flood, will be on view from Friday July 30th through August 29th along with work by Wasko-Flood. The New Deal Preservation Association presents a "Fireside Chat" Program on Friday July 30 at noon. Join Beth Daynsh a resident of Taos who will share stories about her husband Joe Daynsh and his work while Southwest Regional Director of seven Western States of the WPA's Federal Art Project. Adult Book Arts Class: The Coptic Journal with Jamie Ash
The Coptic Journal
2 Saturdays: July 31st and August 7th, 1 to 4:30.
The open-spine of the coptic book reveals the book’s structure and uses the structure itself to make an aesthetic statement. Nested, teardrop-shaped stitches connect the pages to the covers and are a pleasure to look at in and of themselves. We'll use the first week of this two-week class to design the covers for a blank journal and to embellish the journal’s pages. In the second week, we'll learn a two-needle coptic stitch and sew the completed elements together. Taught by Jamie Ash. Class fee $80 for Harwood Museum Alliance Members, $96 non-members. Materials fee $12.00. Maximum: 8 students.

This is Not your Grandmother’s Paste Paper!
Saturday, August 14th, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
For centuries, artists have been painting papers with colored paste and using them to ornament books. But this is 2010, and paste paper is not just for end papers and covers. This class will explore techniques using inks and paste painting to create layered effects and rich color, and look at ways to use the completed papers in books. The Travel Journal
Saturday & Sunday, August 21st, 9:30 to 4 & August 22nd, 12 to 3
This class provides an opportunity to immerse oneself into a more complicated book form with surface design work. Students will create a two signature travel journal, with attached handmade envelopes for miscellany. Covers and envelopes will be painted, and possibly some of the pages. The completed the piece will be stitched together in a modified dos-a-dos binding. Taught by Maggi Younger. Class fee $100 for Harwood Museum Alliance Members, $120 non-members. Materials fee $15.00.
